The Tekin Powercell 3400 is a nice battery pack. The pack comes in a cool round container as shown below. This can be used for your own personal storage when not using.
The 2 cell pack is contained within a polycarbonate sonic welded case . Its really important to have a hard cased lipo for safety reasons. Lipo packs can rarely explode or “puff” as its referred to. This isn’t manufacture specific as it pertains to all makers. Tekin takes this into concern with their hard case. Even so, it is important to charge lipo packs in a lipo safe charging sleeve. This is the safe way to go. Most tracks have this rule as well.
The Tekin Powercell comes with a set of power wires and balancing wire. To use, just install the power leads to your speed control or lipo approved charger. The balancing lead installs onto your lipo balancer (available separately).
What is balancing? Well, inside the hard case there are 2 Cells. Most lipo chargers will cut off the pack when it reaches 8.4 volts. Howver, if one cell is a much higher voltage than the other, it can result in overcharging. This can lead to expolsions,etc. For this reason, manufactures have a balancing port. You can purchase a balancer to insure this doesn’t happen. Its a good safety measure. Although the pack has a balancing port, according to Tekin Team Manager Randy Pike, their packs rarely need balancing.You can see the power leads, balancing leads, power ports below.
The pack is super light at just over 7 Ounces. Its quite light compared to other manufature packs. According to Tekin, they are seeing the greatest success for this pack in off-road. The Power Cell is rated at 23C (rating related to punch), however its comparable to the 28C rating from other manufatures’ packs. The pack’s case is humped similar to normal cells. It will fit nicely into cars with battery cut outs. This helps it stay in the car and not fall out in the middle of a run…..which really sucks to happen. The pack’s charge recommendation is 5 amps. According to Tekin Team manager Randy Pike, there is really no advantage to charging higher. He has seen very little voltage difference with over 100 cycles on a pack.
