The 2009 Reedy Touring Car Race of Champions practice day #1 started today. R/C Evil Empire is in the house with Vader and Web Droid doing updates on the daily.
This year’s layout featured a slight variation of last year’s layout with a few new twists.
The full straight into a 180 is still in effect. This is a popular place to make a pass move.
The first turn is real easy to forget when to turn. You can lose alot of time in this corner if its not taken properly.
Last year’s layout features a nice chicane. This year, the chicane is even tigher. This should provide some real tight racing.
The front short straight still remains from last years layout…..except this time its not a flowing.
The first day of practice saw outside temperatures in the high 80’s with very little wind. It was very hot needless to say. The track temps reached around 14 degrees.
4 controlled rounds of practice occurred today with drivers in the RCGT, 13.5 Touring and Mod Touring classes.
Team T.O.P. Racing driver EJ Evans busted out the fastest 13.5 single lap time with 17.1 sec
Last years Open Mod winner Kevin Jelich was blazing fast all day in practice.
Many of the team drivers from overseas couldn’t make this year’s race due to economic and swine flu concerns. We at R/C Evil Empire want to salute those that did make it ……like
Team Yokomo driver Ronald Volker
This is Ronald’s first big race with Yokomo. He was 2nd at the Ifmar Worlds last year with HPI. It looked like Ronald was getting used to his equipment all day.
Team Tamiya driver Hubert “Hupo” Hoenigl was the sole stars driver representation.
Other faces in the crowd…..
Local driver Marshall Keener was there.
Team T.O.P.’s Josh Cyrul was i the house repping the red. Josh recently designed the new T.O.P. Photon.
Alex Kunz was in the house. Check the new R/C Eil Empire threads……a Reedy debut.
Team Yokomo’s Robert Itoh was at Speedworld. This year he was actually racing instead of driver babysitting.
Speedworld owner Billy Bowerman was there sporting his trademark flat top.
Kyosho driver Tyler Vik was in attendence. Tyler’s expertise is usually 1/8 scale gas off-road. This is Tyler’s first ever big Tourig car race.
Scotty Ernst was running the event as usual.
Stay tuned to R/C Evil Empire for more pics and updates of practice day #2
