I recently had the opportunity to review the Protek Super Hauler Bag by Protek. Its a super nice bag that sports a blue/black/silver colorway. The bag comes packaged in a collapsed state. The inner boxes need to be built. Using my super mechanical powers, I was able to build it in around 15 minutes. It was a snap.
The bag features 4 smaller and 1 larger boxes. Unlike previous hauler bags, the Protek Super Hauler features plastic inner boxes.
The larger (upper box) is able to fit a 1/8 Scale Buggy as well as 1/10 vehicles. They even fit with the tires on! As you can see….this Team Associated T4 easily fits. You have more room to stuff tires, power bars, or just about anything around it as well.
The smaller boxes are great for storage of anything. My favorite way to pack is by compartmentalizing. First you organize your parts and other items into smaller boxes. Next, you place these smaller boxes into the plastic drawers. This provides a neat and orderly way of finding items. Tupperware containers are a great way to do this. A note of caution…it is best to store heavier items on the bottom drawers. When heavy items are stored in middle boxes in particular, it tends to put preassue on the bottom boxes. This can lead to stress when opening and closing.
Tires of any type fit nicely into the smaller boxes as well.
The boxes are easily removed. This is great for cleaning. If you are a racer or r/c enthusiast, you know how dirty inner boxes can get…..no matter what style of racing your into.
Here’s a shot of the inside without the boxes. the outter frame is made of a strong plastic with nylon material stitched around it. This provides a nice framework for the inner boxes.
The bottom of the bag features wheels. This can be proped up at a angle and towed from your car to the pits.
Here’s a shot of the retractable handle that comes standard with the Protek Super Hauler Bag. This is a great idea. You can retract it when you get settled at your pit. That way it doesn’t whack into any innocent passer-bys.
The top section features a padded strap. Its a good idea to lift the bag from this strap when placing your bag in and out of your vehicle.
The top section and strap can be zipped back to expose a tool and storage section. You have the option of laying out your necessary tools in this area.
The bag is surrounded by zipp up pouches and compartments. The above 2 pouches are just below the retractable handle. These are nice for items such as tire sauce, extra electronics, or just about anything.
A nice flat pouch on the wheel side provides a great place for flat items such as instruction manuals, etc.
Overall Pros: I found the Protek R/C P-8 Super Hauler Bag to be a great value. It provides the versatility and storage necessary to satisfy a broad variety of r/c enthusiasts needs. The boxes provide necessary flexibility and size to fit a variety of items ranging from tires to power strips. I have personally used this same style of bag for awhile now.
Overall Cons: The inner framework is made of a inner plastic framework. This adds to the overall gross loaded weight. The bag can become very heavy when fully loaded with batteries, tools, etc. You need to be very careful when loading the bag in and out of your car. Lifting by the retractable handle is not advised….as this can overstress the handle and inner framework. You must lift by the upper strap or side handles. This is very important.
The bag sells for the street price of around $149.99. This is a great deal considering bags of this caliber sell for $180-200 normally.
The bag is available through A Main Hobbies here.
Thanks to Protek for providing R/C Evil Empire the opportunity to review their product!
