Day 4 of the Cactus Classic featured some intense qualifying.
In the 2wd Mod class, round 3 started off with a awesome run from Brian Kinwald. He managed to whip up a run in the B qualifier that nearly held for a round 3 TQ. The A qualifier featured a back and forth battle between AE’s Ryan Maifield and Kyosho’s Jared Tebo. Eventually, Maifield made a mistake that allowed Tebo to take over the lead. At that point. Tebo was a second or two off the Kinwald TQ. On the very last lap, Tebo was able to make up .3 sec to take the round by .01 sec….it was crazy. In round 4, Ryan Cavalleri would take the TQ by a nice cushion. This allowed Cavalleri to take over the overall TQ. Kinwald followed up his round 3 run with another great run for a 6th qualifying position start. Another veteran making his presence felt was Mark Pavidis. Mark managed to squeak into the 2wd Mod main (10th overall) with a couple of nice runs. It looked like he found his stroke after a slow start. The order for the mains are Cavalleri, Tebo, and Billy Fisher in third.
Here’s Kinwald’s car on the 3rd round run:

In the 4wd Mod Class, Ryan Cavalleri would start off with a bang in round 3. His time of 15 laps in 5:08 would take the round TQ. He would be followed up by Lee Martin of Tamiya. In round 4, Cavalleri’s car was a rocket! He was on a 16 lap pace until a slight mistake wrapped him up for a couple of seconds. He would still wind up taking round 4 with a 15 lapper in 5:01! It was very impressive. The qualifying order for the mains is Cavalleri(AE) , Maifield (AE), and Dustin Evans (Losi).

The look of intensity during round 3’s A Qualifier:
In the Truck Mod Class, Jared Tebo of Kyosho would take both round 3 and 4 with impressive runs. His Kyosho RT5 looks like the one to beat going into the mains. AE’s Ryan Cavalleri and Ryan Maifield will be lining up in back of him for the triple A Mains.
Other TQ’s for the day were as folllows:
Jeremy Felles – Stock Buggy and Stock Truck
Mike Friery – Truck 10.5 and Buggy 10.5
Tanner Denney – 4wd 10.5
Kody Numedahl – Pro 2 SC Truck
All of the 10.5 classes will run 15 minute mains!. In addition, only 8 racers were taken into the main. Another 2 will bump from the B main into each 10.5 main. All other classes will run triple mains.
Some other cool pics I took.
Here’s a spy shot of the new 1/10 Short Course tires by AKA. There are 2 types. Each will be available in around 1 month. They will be sold in 2 compounds.

Stephen Hartson of AE was chillin….
Also, I got these cool shots of Hupo Honigl’s Team Durango 4wd ride….
