The 2nd annual Nor Cal Championships were held at Nor Cal Hobbies from Nov 13-14. Following a cue from last year’s race, title belts were on the line in the 6 championship classes. These consisted of 2wd 13.5 Buggy, Open 2wd Buggy, Open 4wd Buggy, Open Short Course, 1/8 Buggy, and 1/8 Truggy.
Due to logistical constraints, I was unable to do a lengthy report this year. Accept my apologies… Here’s a brief recap of the winners and how things went.
A new track layout was put in for this year’s event. The 1/10 portion was ran on the smaller track with the 1/8 portion on the bigger track. 105 entries made the race pretty competitive. We saw B and C mains in some of the classes…namely Short Course Open. From So-Cal, Cody Turner (Team Associated) and Brian McDuffie (Kyosho) came up for the weekend.
In the 2wd class, J Concepts/Team Associated driver Cody Turner would TQ. Following shortly behind, Eric Albano (J Concepts) would qualify 2nd. A battle would erupt in all three mains between Turner, Albano, and Brian McDuffie (Kyosho/J Concepts). All three competitors would finish with a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each of the three A Mains. It finally came down to the best 2 combined runs tiebreaker. Cody Turner would take the win and title belt by just 3 combined seconds. He would be followed by Brian Mcduffie (2nd), and Eric Albano (3rd).
In the 4wd class, Cody Turner would TQ and win easily. His A-1 and A-2 wins were far and ahead of 2nd place Brian McDuffie and Johnathan Hernandez. Not really much to talk about here. It was open and shut.
In the 1/8 Electric Buggy Austin Blair (Kyosho/Tekno) would dominate. His TQ time would allow him to get a easy win in A-1. In the A-2 main, he would be pressured a bit by Jesse Stark. In the end, Blair would take the A-2 and overall victory. Jesse Stark would finish in a respectable 2nd overall. This included a A-3 victory. He was followed in 3rd by Aaron Biner.
In 1/8 Electric Truggy, Austin Blair would get a easy TQ, A-1, and A-2 victory. It’s was pretty much a cakewalk for the youngster. Codie Hughie and Austin Lee would take 2nd and 3rd respectively.
13.5 2wd Buggy would go to Bobby Gately. He would TQ and win the first 2 mains. Rounding out the podium, Ethan Erchinger would finish 2nd with Kevin Pitta in 3rd.
Short Course Open was all Aaron Biner (Kyosho/J Concepts). Mr. Vader would TQ 3 of the 4 rounds and win the first 2 A Mains for a easy victory . Codie Hughie and Kevin Jelich (Team Associated) would finish in 2nd and 3rd.
Here are some shots of the winners and their belts!
